I would just like some clarification of the book ‘Survivor: those that got left behind’. The book claims to be a christian based book but if anyone has seen it could you please help me clarify if the book is something christians should be reading. I notice it debates a lot on revelations and when this world will end.
I did purchase the book off the street at one time but my friend told me it looked a bit ‘not-right’ as the cover did not look convincing to be a christian book at all, so i threw it away. Even so should such a book about the last trumpet be given out on the streets trying to further the gospel?

The story can be found on jesuschristians.com.
Thanx everyone.

Hello Billy, I have checked out the ‘jesuschristians web site and quickly scanned the book.  It disagrees with my own personal understanding of the teachings of Revelation, however I think I could read the whole book and enjoy it as a work of fiction.

I would not think it suitable as an ‘evangelical handout’ because the Gospel of Jesus is not fiction.  Revelation in the context of Armaggedon, Beasts, Earthquakes and various cosmological upheavals is scarry stuff and driving people to Jesus through fear belongs back in the times of the inquisitions.(IMO).

The “Revelation of Jesus Christ” is just that.  It is about Christ and His Lordship throughout history and beyond.  It was written as an encouragement to Churches undergoing or about to undergo persecution.  It was not written for the unsaved.  In fact the first three chapters make this abundantly clear.

Jesus came into this world as a meek and lowly teacher.  He was friend of the oppressed and liberator of the captive.  He fulfilled all rightiousness and died in our place so that in His being raised back to eternal life we too can be raised to eternal life.
Though rather sketchy, that is the Gospel that brings people to the Lord in repentance and with a loving and greatful heart.  So in my opinion, the book is not suitable for ‘street corner’ evangelism.
It will be interesting to see what others think.
I think that web site contains deceptively unbiblical teaching in areas such as inclusivism, so my best advise to anyone is browse that site with care.

Doug

Just to contradict myself; let me say that as a result of watching a film called ‘666 the man’ (or was it the beast), and a J B Philips translation, I found salvation in Christ Jesus.  But then I never conform to the norm.

I’ll check the website tomorrow (after I get some sleep!!!). Is the book one of the ‘Left Behind’ series? I know there was a movie with Kirk whatisname based on a book like it…

LOL @ Dani!

Hi Billy.

Like Doug I am a bit concerned [from my brief scan] with the theology [then again, I’m not 100% fine with the JesusChristian website’s take either!  *confused*].  Taking second hand information, several people I know have read the “Left Behind” series, and none have been too impressed from a theologically correct point of view.

I think if you were handing out things, a nice Gospel [John, for instance] would be infinitely better than one of the “Left Behind” books.

My 2 cents,
Ian.
