Has anyone read this new book from Chappo yet? I’d be interested in hearing a review…

I’ve read it - and enjoyed it too. As to be expected from Chappo it’s clear. It is an easy read about a significant topic, and bases the call for holiness on God’s own holiness. I think I might give it a push in the local uni group when term 4 starts.

One change in Chappo’s message is evident: now he writes ‘the first sixty years are the hardest.’

I wanted to buy it at lunch, but the Cathedral bookstore is closed Mondays and the new Bible Society Bookshop is still not open.

Its hard to believe that in the whole CBD there is not a specialist christian bookstore..!

I just finished reading it today and I found it a worthwhile read. Chappo works through the subject of holiness in a systematic way re-covering ground to ensure that you’ve got the point. Another good point is that the main scriptures are printed in full. One thing I found interesting and was unaware of was on page 77 where he refers to Romans 6 and in particular the term “dead to sin”. Chappo talks about the misunderstanding he had of this statment early in his christian walk-and I still had untill I read this- in that he thought it meant that,

“we would be impervious to the pull of sin upon our lives. All we had to do was to rest in the promises of God and we would always experience victory over temptation.”

I would recommend this to anyone. Has anybody read any other books by Chappo that they would recommend?

Chris,

Thanks for the recommendation.

You brought a smile to my face when you shared:

One change in Chappo’s message is evident: now he writes ‘the first sixty years are the hardest.’

Like you, I remember the good old message being ‘the first fifty years are the hardest.’

cheers

I bought the book today from the Cathedral. I like it so far - it is thin!

Seriously, this series looks like a great initiative. Well done Gordon - whats the next title going to be?
