I was given a bit of a worldview shakeup when I read Mike Raiter’s Stirrings of the soul (which is an excellent book, I highly recommend it). He talks about the idea that people who are getting into different ‘spritualities’ are people searching for the truth but haven’t found it yet. He makes the point from Romans 1:18-32 that people who worship things other than God aren’t seekers looking for the truth but people who deliberately ignore the truth, they choose to worship the lie.
By default, we take the side of sinful humanity and we see people as neutral or even good in their natural state. We don’t see things as our righteous God does, that we bury our heads in the sand and pretend that He isn’t there because we don’t want Him ruling over our lives. We always (me included) need to be reminded of the total rebelliousness of humanity because we forget all to easily because our standards aren’t as low as God’s standards.
Praise God for His grace on us, that although we didn’t deserve Him, He chose us to be His children in Christ.
