Annual Conference 2008 - Decoding the Canon

Decoding is the process of restoring original messages from the forms in which they were transmitted, stored or enciphered by applying a suitable code. Our 13 impressive speakers at the Conference will seek to decode and explain some of those intriguing original messages from the early Christian world.

Not only do we have a great line-up of local speakers for the Conference, but we also have a number of overseas speakers who will be presenting papers.

Our visiting SSEC Fellow is Assoc. Prof. Kim Haines Eitzen. Kim is Associate Professor of early Christianity and early Judaism and Chair for the Department of Near Eastern Studies, Cornell University.

Our other overseas speakers are:
Prof. Larry Welborn from Fordham University, New York;

Prof. Ben Witherington III from Asbury Theological Seminary, Kentucky;

Dr. Alexander Weiss who is a Humboldt Fellow researching social history of Early Christianity.

Connect 09 Prayer Day

Details: Congregations across the diocese are being urged to designate Sunday, June the 1st as a prayer day for our city.

Although Archbishop Jensen says prayer must be “sustained and continuous because really we are doing God’s work....” the Connect09 prayer day will be the first focussed opportunity for all churches to be praying on the one day.

World Vision 40 hr famine

Details: Help free kids in India from child labour, trafficking and slavery by taking part in the 2008 World Vision 40 hr famine. It only takes a weekend but the difference it makes can last a lifetime. Every year, the Famine supports World Vision's work in some of the world's poorest countries and in 2008, it will focus on the situation of child labour in India.

MAC Conference 2008
