Promises - Mike Begbie

Mike Begbie is one of a new generation of singer/song-writers who is seeking to write contemporary Christian music that is not only encouraging to listen to but has all kinds of possibilities for congregational use as well.

Mike’s first CD, Promises, certainly hits both of these targets. Released through Andrew Macken’s Delusion Records (Andrew also produced the album), the album contains 11 tracks which consistently point the listener to the great grace of God in the Lord Jesus Christ, whilst at the same time embodying and articulating the kind of response that God both calls for and makes possible.

The songs are well crafted and catchy and Mike’s voice is reminiscent of a younger Nathan Tasker. The CD contains many wonderful high points of praise and challenge, energy and beauty.

Highlights for me include the title track, ‘Promises’ (track 3), ‘Offering’ (track 7), ‘You are God’ (track 9) and a track sung by Alana Rodgers - ‘Answers’ (track 8).

In short, this is a really good first album and well worth checking out.
